This ease of trade between countries meant that everything associated with the products being sold had to be translated.However, as this growth was faster than translators could keep up with, there was a need to create a different kind of service. It was because of this that pos-edition was born, a service where the translator uses a text already translated by machine translation and tries to make it better so that it is not noticeable that a machine was involved.In this report, there will be an effort to evaluate whether the post-editing service is a good alternative when dealing with technical translation, since this is a heavily complex area of translation, dealing with very specific styles of text as well as technical terms. This complexity could then mean that post-editing would require more effort and time from the translator turning it a not viable option. Firstly, the notion of technical translation will be explored, since there are multiple opinions on what this entails. After establishing what is technical translation, the service of post-editing will be analyzed, approaching how machine translation came to be what it is today, and in what way post-editing currently operates, as well as an analysis of errors made by machine translation and how they impact the work of the translator. In order to respond to the main question of this report there will also be an analysis of a questionnaire presented to translation professionals that had the objective of ascertaining their opinion on post-editing.Through the results and their conclusions, it can be said that although machine translation has made some serious progress over the years it is still not at a point where it is reliable when it comes to such technical backgrounds, meaning that for the moment it will not always be worth to resort to this service.Devido à crescente globalização, a tradução converteu-se num dos setores com mais importância no mundo atual, facilitando tanto a comunicação como o comércio entre diferentes países. Esta facilidade de comércio entre países implicou a necessidade de traduzir tudo o que lhes estava associado aos produtos a ser vendidos. No entanto, como este crescimento era mais rápido do que os tradutores conseguiam acompanhar, surgiu a necessidade de criar um tipo de serviço diferente. Foi assim que nasceu a pós-edição, um serviço em que o tradutor utiliza um texto já traduzido por tradução automática e tenta melhorá-lo de modo a não se notar que houve recurso a uma máquina.Neste relatório, procura-se avaliar se o serviço de pós-edição é uma boa alternativa quando se trata de tradução técnica, uma vez que é uma área de tradução muito complexa, conhecida por lidar tanto com estilos de texto muito específicos como com termos técnicos. Esta complexidade pode significar que realizar uma pós-edição exigiria mais esforço e tempo do tradutor, tornando-a uma opção inviável. Em primeiro lugar, será explorada a noção de tradução técnica, uma vez que existem várias opiniões sobre o que esta implica. Depois de definir o que é a tradução técnica, será analisado o serviço de pós-edição, abordando a forma como a tradução automática se tornou no que é hoje e como funciona atualmente a pós-edição, bem como uma análise dos erros cometidos pela tradução automática e do seu impacto no trabalho do tradutor.
