Summary: [pt] O cinema brasileiro ganhou destaque internacional com os filmes Central do Brasil e Cidade de Deus. Ambos representam um Brasil profundo, dos excluídos, dentro do movimento de retomada do cinema nacional a partir da metade da década de 90. Este estudo tenta compreender que elementos compõe a representação da população pobre do Brasil em Cidade de Deus e Central do Brasil. Para tanto, utilizaremos as teorias de representação do cinema e da sociedade, buscando descrever e interpretar a representação do povo brasileiro apresentada nos filmes Central do Brasil e Cidade de Deus. A metodologia foi através da observação e identificação das principais situações mais recorrentes que são representadas em cada filme, sendo estas categorizadas e classificadas. Os resultados apontam que os dois filmes em questão trouxeram uma representação do sensível do brasileiro das classes populares.

Both represent a deep Brazil, of the excluded, within the movement to revive national cinema in the mid-1990s. This study attempts to understand what elements make up the representation of the poor population of Brazil in City of God and Central Station. To this end, we will use theories of representation of cinema and society, seeking to describe and interpret the representation of the Brazilian people presented in the films Central Station and City of God. The methodology was through observation and identification of the main most recurring situations that are represented in each film, which were categorized and classified.
