The sense of community consists in the perception of be similar to the others, in the shared social identity, interdependence, influence, cohesion and to keep people together. These aspects are an important reference in the studies that involving research groups of people in the work context. This study was developed with the purpose of understand the sense of community in the labour context of a multi-professional health team of a public hospital, more precisely in the hematology and pediatric oncology outpatient service. The investigation method is qualitative, descriptive and exploratory. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews with audio recording and based on a pre-established script. In the survey, participated: one doctor, one nurse, one social worker, one teacher, two nursing technicians and two nursing assistants. To analyze the data, we used the method proposed by Spink (2010), based on the perspective of the social constructionism. Four categories were established a priori: Belonging; Influence; Integration and fulfillment of needs and shared emotional connections and one a posteriori: Community. The data analysis shown that the fact of the professionals working collaboratively, with union and commitment, respecting each other, feeling part of the team and mainly realizing their importance to the group, contributes to the construction of the belonging sense. This feeling needs to be constantly fed by the daily relations between the professionals who understand their influence in the work context and value their activities on the established routines, the professional engagement between the team, as well they appreciate the people served. The participants' discourse emphasized the value of their actions in relation to humanized work, carried out with competence and dedication since they feel part of the team and fulfilled due the ability of integrate the different services, doing something more for the team. Thus, they feel like breaking boundaries and helping each other, where all support each other, recognize the individual needs and establish emotional connections beyond the work environment. Therefore, the sense of community‟s element is present in the relationship and team interaction, which allow that the common goals be achieved easier. This study aimed to understand the sense of community and its impact in the context of work of a multidisciplinary team, however we understand that this is a subjective concept and therefore cannot be generalized, but considered in its complexity and inconstancy. Consequently, the permanence of a community‟s sense requires constant investment in interpersonal relationships. |
