Resumo: The sugarcane vinasse is the wastewater from the ethanol process. Each liter of ethanol produced are generated almost 15 liters of vinasse. Physicochemical composition of the wastewater shows high toxicity and raised concentration of nitrogen and phosphate. When microalgae are cultivated, can produce feedstocks for products with added value, like biofuel, food supplements, pigments and fertilizers, but to be economically viable is necessary lower costs from the growing medium. The vinasse can provide the necessary nutrients for the cultivation of microalgae, being the combination of biological treatment to reduce the impacts of its disposal on the soil and the cultivation of microalgae biomass for the marketing of your products is an advantageous alternative for both purposes. The present work has the aim to evaluate microalgae growth Neochloris oleoabundans in the sugarcane vinasse, as well as the biological treatment of wastewater. The experiments occurred with the dilution of vinasse up to 30% in distilled water and in BBM medium under the following cultivation conditions: Temperature 25°C, brightness 2000 lux, photoperiod 12h/12h and constant agitation at 150 rpm. The biggest production of biomass occurred in 30% vinasse diluted in distilled water with produced biomass of 2.72 g. L1 and specific growth rate of 0.5984 d1 . With 30% vinasse in BBM medium (Bold’s Basal Medium) resulted in produced biomass of 2.42 g. L1 and specific growth rate of 1.0550 d1 . So, the vinasse was able to supplement the growth of N. oleoabundans and produce high biomass. An important factor was that at higher concentrations, growth inhibitions occurred. The nutrient removal rates in the medium were considered satisfactory. For the medium with vinasse diluted in water the removal rates were higher than 76%, 95% and 69% for the parameters Total Kjehdalh nitrogen (NTK), phosphate and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), respectively. For the medium prepared with the dilution of vinasse in BBM medium, the removal rates were higher than 74%, 93% and 74%, respectively. During the work was observed that even with freezing and/or addition of acid, the vinasse was degrades, changing its physicochemical properties. The cultivation of microalgae N. oleoabundans in sugarcane vinasse showed good growth and the technique of biological treatment of the wastewater with microalgae is a promising alternative.
