Resumo: | This master’s thesis worked with the novel The Brothers, written by Milton Hatoum and published for the first time in the year 2000. The main purposes of this research were to analyze the narrator-character Nael, his mother Domingas, Zana and Rânia, mother and daughter respectively, aligning the interpretation of these characters with the post-colonialist perspectives which addresses the colonialist reminiscences in subjects located at the social margins (MIGNOLO, 2020; CANCLINI, 2019), in addition to identify the perpetuation of hegemonic discourses and the tangled relationships between oppressed and oppressors (BHABHA, 2019) in order to align definitions about identity formation and its inherent questions to the discussions (HALL, 2003). In that regard, the analyzes addressed here show the repercussions of the social constructs from the past in the characters and how those constructs challenge and unfold them in a conflicting way, especially in the relationships between characters. |
