Resumo: The present study aimed to investigate the capacity for work and the quality of life of the workers of an institution, Professional Education of the West of Santa Catarina. We evaluated 120 workers who work as teachers and support education, of which 68.9% are women and 31.1% are men between the ages of 18 and 65. Data collection included three self-administered questionnaires: 1. Sociodemographic profile - personal, work, lifestyle and health data. 2. Index of Capacity for Work - ICT in the Brazilian version, which provides an index of 7 to 49 points, from seven dimensions. 3. The World Health Organization Quality of Life - WHOQOL-BREF, developed at the WHOQOL Center for Brazil. The data were tabulated in electronic spreadsheets, through which a descriptive analysis was performed. For the calculations of the scores and descriptive statistics of the WHOQOL-BREF instrument, the tool was developed using Microsoft Excel software. In order to verify the adjustment of the normal distribution of variables, the Kolmogovov-Smirnov and Shapiro-Wilk tests were applied. The Pearson correlation test was used to evaluate the correlation between the CI and QV. All analyzes were developed with the SPSS statistical package and the Microsoft Excel spreadsheets. The results obtained indicated a mean of 42.53 for the ICT, the variables with a significant association with the ICT were: (p = 0.005), schooling (p = 0.000), leisure practice (p = 0.005) and family income (p = 0.001). For QV the result of the averages was: physical domain 76,49; psychological 71,63; social relations 71,74; environment and the selfevaluation of QOL 70,91. In the analysis of the domains of QOL with the ICT, the strongest significant correlation was the physical domain (r = 0.68); followed by the psychological (r = 0.44); (r = 0.40) and social relationships (r = 0.24), all significant at the p <0.01 level. The results were positive and may indicate that satisfaction at work and life outside it can provide good capacity for work and quality of life.
