Resumo: | Silver nanoparticles were incorporated into the clay mineral kaolinite by the chemical methodphotoreduction and chemical reduction. The nanoparticles were characterized by X-ray diffractometry (XRD), Fourier Transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) coupled with Energy-Dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDS), thermal analysis (TGA/DTA), Inductively Coupled Plasma -Optical Emission Spectrometry(ICP-OES), transmission electron microscopy(MET) and Zeta potential. The incorporate obtained with a higher concentration of silver nanoparticles was evaluatedas an antimicrobial agent in a cream base on the microorganism Staphylococcus epider-midis, one of the causes of bad body odor. The product's antimicrobial activity was evaluated using agar diffusion and broth microdilution (MIC) methods. The analysis of EDS and ICP-OES proved the presence of silver nanoparticles and that photo reduction was the most efficient method of synthesis. Diffractometry(XRD), SEM and METshowed that the nanoparticle incorporation protocols did not promote morphological changes in the kaolinite clay mineral. The results of the zeta potential showed that kaolinite acted as a promising stabilizer for silver nanoparticles, avoiding agglomeration and precipitation. Theobtained product showed bacteriostatic activity on the studied microorganism, indicating potential application in the treatment of bad body odor. |
