Avaliação do nível de conhecimento de estudantes de odontologia sobre a cirurgia e traumatologia buco-maxilo-facial em Maceió – AL

The study aimed toevaluation of the level of knowledge of dental students on Maxillofacial Surgery in the city of Maceió - AL. The students were divided into five groups according to the year they were enrolled in the dentistry course as follows: group 1 (n = 37), group 2 (n = 61), group 3 (n = 39), group 4 (112) and group 5 (n = 21). A questionnaire containing 26 different clinical situations was given to all the participants, some of whom were competent of the buco-maxillofacial surgeon and others were not asked to choose a specialist to treat each case. The analysis was performed to identify the results using the Kolmogorov-smirnov test and the Chi-Square test to identify if there was a relationship between the variables. The level of significance was 5%. A scale was used to evaluate the level of knowledge of the evaluated groups, where it was defined as: BAD - less than 10%, BAD - 11% to 29%, REGULAR - 30% to 49%, GOOD - 50% to 80% and GREAT - more than 80%. It was verified that the level of knowledge of the students increases during the course of the course, mainly after having contact with the discipline of Maxillofacial Surgery in the third year, presenting the following results: group 1: 16,2%, group 2: 17,09% group 3: 19.46%, group 4: 20.14% and group 5: 22.38%, but the level of knowledge in all groups was considered BAD. It was concluded that the dental students of the city of Maceió - AL do not have satisfactory knowledge about the Maxillofacial Surgery performance.
