The information resource is often present in various areas of society both in the pursuit of certain knowledge as to control or organize managerial and operational processes of an establishment. In the health area this is no different. The expansion of use of the information system occurred in order to subsidize the Government decisions. The present study aimed to explore the potentiality of the Hospital information system of the unified health system (SIH/SUS) using it not just as an instrument of transfer costs with the hospitalizations but also in its administrative aspects and monitoring of diseases. In this way, the research analyzed in a time series the behavior of diseases requiring hospitalization whose occurrence and quantity were measured by hospitalization in a philanthropic hospital Ourinhos/SP city. Besides the cause of hospitalization, the variables sex and age group were considered. The results showed that only the hospitalizations for chapters V, VIII, IX, X, XV, XVI, XIX and XX showed significant statistical difference among the chapters of ICD10. The data obtained by this technological tool morbidities will enable the formulation of indicators that you can meet the health-illness relationship, the relevance of health problems, the possible risk factors and detection of epidemics. The knowledge of this reality will allow a qualitative evaluation of the effectiveness of interventions and the impacts of actions of the hospital, as well as will facilitate the development of strategic actions in health at the Hospital Association of Santa Casa de Misericórdia de Ourinhos and in other hospitals.
