Resumo: |
This study aimed to evaluate the cephalometric soft tissue changes in patients with Class II, Division 1, malocclusion treated with Mandibular Protraction Appliance (MPA) and fixed ortodontic appliance. The sample consisted of 54 radiographs (27 initials and 27 finals) in lateral norm of 27 patients, 14 female and 13 male, with initial mean age of 12.27 years followed for a mean period of 2.9 years. We used the Kolmogorov-Smirnov analysis to verify the normality of the data, paired t-test to verify the systematic error and Dahlberg formula to estimate the magnitude of random errors. There were statistically significant differences in the upper lip projection, nasal projection, projection of point A ', lower lip length and thickness of the cutaneous pogonion. Based on the sample studied, the methodology used and the results it was concluded that, cephalometric, the use of conventional MPA associated with braces provides facial changes such as retrusion of the upper lip and the point A 'and the increase in thickness of the soft tissue pogonion contributing in orthodontic camouflage of Class II malocclusion. |
