Resumo: The aim of this study was to evaluate the life condition of 40 nurses working at night in the Hospital Estadual de Bauru-SP. The Medical Outcomes Study 36 – Item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36) questionnaire and the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) questionnaire were applied by a single evaluator. The association between the degree of Burnout and quality of life was assessed by the Kruskal-Wallis test at a significance level of 5%. It was observed that the majority of the volunteers were female (n=34, 85.0%), in the married civil status (n=28, 70.0%). It was also observed that all the nurses presented some degree of Burnout: 12 with high burnout (group 3) (81 to 100 points), 22 with moderate burnout (group 2) (61 to 80 points) and 6 with mild burnout (41 to 60 points). Regarding the association of quality of life with the degree of burnout, in the "physical aspects" dimension, the most significant mean values were observed in group 3, in relation to the following domains: functional capacity (70.0 ± 25.8); limitation (45.8 ± 25.7) and pain (46.2 ± 7.0). In the "general health" domain, the most significant mean value occurred in group 2. Only significance was observed in the "functional capacity" domain between groups 2 and 3 (p <0.05). In the "emotional aspects" dimension, the most significant mean values of the domains were observed in groups 2 and 3. In group 2, there were expressions for "social aspects" (51.7 ± 14.1) and "mental health" (50.2 ± 11.6); in group 3, in "vitality" (55.4 ± 9.6) and limitation (22.2 ± 32.8). In this last dimension, no significance was observed (p> 0.05). It is concluded that the presence of burnout is expressive among nurses of the nocturnal regime. In this way, quality of life is also compromised due to job dissatisfaction, contributing to somatic disorders, such as functional and emotional pains and limitations.
