Resumo: The present thesis analyzes different ways of thinking associated with ways of speaking the concept of acid / base in a socially situated experience, experienced by chemistry graduates. We first seek to make considerations regarding the characterization of 7 hairdressers as members of a community of practice, as well as to identify the different meanings and shared meanings associated with the concept. In the second stage, we seek to structure, in a case study, a situation experienced in the community of practice. For this, the methodological path was organized in two moments. The first allowed to identify characteristics that the interviewees, who work with the activity related to hair treatment and are members of the same community of practice, namely: mutual engagement, joint venture and shared repertoire. The interview was semi-structured and encompassed questions related to the different techniques and procedures associated with understanding the concept of acid. We then analyze the semantic relationships between the different scientific terms and the daily life of the interviewees, which has been defined as the meanings attributed to the concept of acid in the context of the community. We also selected ways of speaking characteristics of ways of thinking, organized from the conceptual profile of substance. In the second stage, we elaborated a case study and organized a didactic sequence, through a training module with chemistry graduates. The modes of thinking were also analyzed from the conceptual profile of acid / basic substance and the relation between meanings and contexts was analyzed from elements of social semiotics. The results and analysis point out characteristics of the interviewees as part of the community, sharing stories, experiences and practices. In general, the senses attributed by the hairdressers to the concept of acid associate it with the effects obtained when they are used in routine procedures of the salons, such as progressive brushes and hydrations, prevailing conceptions of utilitarian / pragmatic nature. In the academic context, the case study resolution process revealed closer approaches to scientifically accepted concepts, an example of rationalist modes of thinking. These modes of thinking emerge when the licenciandos seek to explain the concept of acid / base unrelated to any social context. In the academic context, the case study resolution process revealed closer approaches to scientifically accepted concepts, an example of rationalist modes of thinking. These modes of thinking emerge when the licenciandos seek to explain the concept of acid / base unrelated to any social context. When they come in contact with the activities proposed to assist in the resolution of the case study, the licenciandos seek to articulate the scientific language and the specialized language of the community of practice. This articulation reveals modes of thinking that stand as a transition between more intuitive, everyday concepts, and scientific concepts that are pragmatically more powerful in the understanding of chemistry graduates, like the substantialist and empiricist modes of thinking. Throughout the activities, through the insertion of the context of the community of practitioners of capillary beauty, it was possible to perceive a movement of relation between meanings and contexts. It seems clear to us that, in this context, there are specific ways of thinking that gain pragmatic value when dealing with different situations. The process of solving the case study allowed the encounter between the different contexts, revealing different ways of thinking, the concept of acid / base that has specific meanings in specific contexts.
