The effect of replacing Tifton hay by Maniçoba hay in diets for lactating goats on intake, digestibility of nutrients, blood parameters, feeding behavior and yield milk and composition were evaluated. The study was conducted at the Department of Animal Science, UFRPE, using 8 Saanen goats at 40 days of lactation and average weight of 43 kg in Latin square 4 x 4. Treatments consisted of levels (0, 33.3, 66.7 and 100%) replacement of Tifton hay for Maniçoba hay. Each experimental period lasted 21 days (14 days for adaptation and 7 for data collection). The intake of nutrients was calculated as the difference between the supplied and leftovers. Blood was collected in the jugular vein for analysis of blood parameters using commercial kits (Labtest). The calculation of digestibility was obtained by the equation considering the amount of nutrient ingested and the excretion in feces, estimated with use of Lignin Enriched and Purified (LIPE ®). The behavioral parameters were evaluated according to the method of instantaneous spot scan in 5 minute intervals. Milk yield was recorded daily at each milking and analyzed the levels of fat, protein, lactose, total solids and solids not fat, in addition to variables: temperature, pH and density of milk. Feed efficiency in the treatments was determined by the ratio of adjusted milk to 3.5 % fat and dry matter consumed. There was no effect of the substitution on intake of dry matter, organic matter, acid detergent fiber, total carbohydrates and total digestible nutrients. The intake of crude protein and neutral detergent fiber decreased with the replacement, while the non-fiber carbohydrates and ether extract increased linearly. There was no influence of the substitution of Tifton hay by Maniçoba hay on blood parameters. The digestibility of dry matter and organic matter and total carbohydrates were not changed, the crude protein and neutral detergent fiber decreased and non-fiber carbohydrates increased linearly. Time spent eating and chewing was reduced and leisure time increased, without interfering with rumination, water intake and the efficiency of feeding and rumination based on intake of dry matter and neutral detergent fiber. There was a linear decrease in milk yield, which did not occur when the yield milk was running for 3.5% fat, also there was no effect on feed efficiency, fat content, protein, lactose, total solids and solids not fat, in addition variables: temperature, pH and density. The Maniçoba hay can replace Tifton hay diets for lactating goats without compromising nutrient intake, digestibility of dry matter, yield milk was running for 3.5% fat and milk composition. |
