Resumo: This study aimed to evaluate the performance, dry matter, crude protein and TDN, and carcass characteristics of Santa Inês sheep fed mazoferm to replace soybean meal. We used 32 male animals uncastrated, with an average initial weight of 21 ± 2.3 kg in a randomized complete block design. We tested four levels (0.0, 33.0, 66.0 and 100.0%) of soybean meal by mazoferm. The forage was used Tifton hay-85. The experiment lasted 100 days, 30 and 70 adaptive data collection and samples, after which we proceeded to slaughter. Statistical analyzes were performed using the Statistical Analysis System Genetic / SAEG. There was no effect of substitution on intake of dry matter and TDN consumption, but the consumption of crude protein decreased linearly. The performance and body weight at slaughter were not affected by the substitution causing the parameters empty body weight, hot carcass weight and cold carcass yield, marketable yield, biological yield present the same behavior. Beyond these parameters, the thickness of subcutaneous fat, weight loss by cooling, loin eye area, weight and yield of retail cuts and carcass morphometric measurements were not affected. It is recommended the replacement of soybean meal by mazoferm considering that it does not affect carcass characteristics.
