Resumo: The productive sector of the red ceramics industry has experienced great growth over the years and as a consequence it has generated significant amounts of residues specially during the manufacturing process of tiles, bricks and ceramic blocks. The absence of an effective residue management of the processes can cause an environmental impact. The general objective of this dissertation is to analyze the management of the solid residues produced by the Red Ceramics Industry and to formulate a step by step for the maintenance of the Solid Waste Management Plan (SWMP) containing the current legislation and with that enable the elaboration of a Technical Regulation Proposal, promoting the adaptation of the sector to the National Solid Waste Policy. The methodology covers firstly the analysis of secondary data, technical visits to four industries to complete the field checklist and the application of questionnaires to at least 10 employees per industry. The data survey regarding the amount of residues was carried out in one of the companies, with an extended visit from November 1 to 30, 2018. One of the main results listed was the observation of incipient residue management, which only covers legal formalization. The amount of residues was 3.3%, which was below from what was found in other studies, however this amount is around two tons of residues per month. The preparation of the Solid Waste Management Maintenance Plan and the proposal for the technical regulation are based on the current legislation. This study highlighted the need for a greater commitment from the red ceramics industries with the national solid waste policy and the need for more active enforcement policies in order to obtain greater control in the monitoring of residue management.
