Resumo: In Brazil and in the world, cancer is a condition that becomes relevant for its epidemiological profile. In this sense, the theme becomes attractive to new studies, gaining momentum in the scientific community with an emphasis on ovarian cancer as one of the malignancies with a poor prognosis. The pineal gland is a tiny endocrine gland that produces melatonin. It is believed that this derivative of serotonin exerts a suppressive effect on gonadotropin secretion and therefore inhibits the growth and function of the gonads. Several studies have evaluated the action of the pineal pinealectomy in experimental animals submitted under different anesthetic protocols, surgical instruments and suture materials. The N -nitroso - N - Methylurea (NMU) has direct carcinogenic action, inducing tumors in various organs in various species. Objective was to establish an experimental model for induction of tumors in the ovaries of 36 Wistar rats into 6 groups, subdivided according to age. Pinealectomizadas not pinealectomizadas and NMU members or as single agents. It is concluded that the improvements in the surgical technique of pinealectomy are applicable in Wistar rats, however, the experimental model of ovarian carcinogenesis in Wistar rats, using with or without pinealectomy intraperitoneal NMU showed practical impossibility in this study due to the absence of tumors. There is the prospect that this work will serve as input for the improvement and optimization of the experimental model of ovarian tumor -inducing agents and, from these, possible treatments.
