Resumo: |
The root-knot nematode of guava Meleoidogyne enterolobii (Sin: M. mayaguensis) causes severe losses in guava crops in several States in Brazil. Control measures as rootstock genetic resistance and using non-host Myrtaceae species are the most promising. The objective of this work was evaluating four Psidium (P. cattleyanum, P. friedrichstalianum, P. guineense and P. guajava cv. ‘Paluma’) species for penetration, development, reproduction and cellular root responses to M. enterolobii. It was carried out three experiments for penetration, development and reproduction of the nematode and performed root histological analysis at the end of the experiments. In the first study, it was used 60 plants inoculated with 6.000 eggs in the experiment 1 and, in the experiments, 2 and 3, 44 and 16 plants inoculated with 8.000 and 5.000 second stage juveniles (J2) of M. enterolobii, respectively. Plats were evaluated at 5, 10, 15 and 20 days after inoculation (DAI) for nematode penetration and development and at 60 DAI for nematode reproduction. Psidium cattleyanum, P. friedrichstalianum and P. guineense presented the resistance to M. enterolobii. P. guajava was susceptible. During the experimental period M. enterolobii did not complete the life cycle in the resistant species which presented low developed feed sites. |
