Resumo: |
The present study aimed to estimate the performance and carcass characteristics of the Berganês sheep ecotype and their crosses. Were used 32 lambs of the Berganês genotype (BG), Berganês X Santa Ines (BSI), Dorper x Berganês (DB) and from the control group Dorper X Santa Ines (DSI), eight for each genetic group, with initial mean weight of 21.67 kg, respectively. The model used was an entirely random design. The measures with significant differences when calibrated at the beginning of the experiment were those characterizing the animal biotype such as bevel length, ear size, canela circumference, withers height and rump height (P<0.05). The characteristics measured at the end of experiment showed significant differences (P<0.05), except by the body length. Was found genotype influence under studied characteristics (P<0.05). Genotypes DB and BG showed final weight similarity. Genotypes DB, BG and DSI were not different among each for daily mean weight gain, and were higher than BSI. Daily dry matter intake was higher for DB and BG. Mean daily water intake was higher for BG and DB. The genotype BSI had the higher value for food conversion 4.80 kg. Regarding empty body weight the groups DB and BG showed superiority to the DSI and BSI (15.20% and 19.54%) (13.37% and 17.81%), respectively. The genotype DB showed higher carcass weight. The BG genetic group showed carcass yield and lower weight loss in the upper cooling compared to the other genotypes. The weight of half-left carcass and commercial cuts were higher in the DB and BG groups. DB genetic group presented lower yields of loin and pallet. |
