Resumo: In this work, a comparative electrochemical study of 15 compounds derived from 1,4-naphthoquinone, including lawsone, using cyclic voltammetry and others techniques, was performed on searching for an understanding of the mechanisms involved in the bioactive processes and on designing new potentially more efficient derivatives against the snail Biomphalaria glabrata, the main intermediary of Schistosoma mansoni, the schistosomiasis’ vector. The studies were carried out in aprotic medium using dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) as solvent and tetrabutylammonium perchlorate (TBAP) as supporting electrolyte. All compounds showed to be electroactive, with at least two pairs of waves, which underwent electrochemical potential displacement from oneanother in accordance to the chemical characteristics of the substituent group. The voltammogram of one of the studied compounds showed a particular greater complexity, therefore, a more detailed study in others electrodes was carried out for investigating its electrochemical behavior. For all the studied compounds, no direct two-way relationship was observed between the electrochemical properties and biological activity, but, the compounds with higher biological activity also presented higher reduction potentials, in good agreement to the literature. A derivative compound proposed on the basis of the overall tendency observed presented the expected electrochemical properties and showed good molluscicidal activity
