Resumo: The objective of this research was analyzed metabolic parameters associated with energy after 30 minutes of four beat gait test simulation using 13 Mangalarga Marchador horses at a medium speed of 3,2 m/s. It was determined the horses´ body composition, physiological (heart and respiratory rate – FC/FR) and metabolic parameters [packed cell volume (HT), total plasma protein (PPT), albumin (ALB), glucose (GLU), lactate (LAC), urea (UR), creatinin (CN), creatine kinase (CK), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), total cholesterol (COLT), HDL cholesterol (COLHDL), triglycerides (TRG) in five times: pre-test (fasted), immediately after (T0), 15 (T15), 30 (T30) and 240 minutes (T240) after exercise finish. Lactate was determined in T0, T15 and T30. Results showed these horses had 13,4%± of fat. There were differences (P<0,05) in FC, FR, HT, PPT,GLU, LAC but no significant modifications in ALB, UR, CN, CK, AST, ALT,COLT, COLHDL and TRG concentrations (P>0,05). It was observed differences in FC, FR, HT and LAC between four beat gait “picada” and four beat gait “batida” (P<0,05). In conclusion thehorses showed important modifications in their blood metabolites associated with energetic metabolism (FC, FR, GLU and LAC) and body fluids (HT and PPT), which characterize this kind of exercise as medium intensity and duration, with lower lactate production and some degree of dehydration during recovery. Also, it was observed that four beat gait “picada” is more energetic expensive than “batida” when both horses´ group were exercised at same speed. Finally, it was observed that these results made a metabolic characterization of these kind of gaits and they will produce changes in training and nutritional practice of the four beat gait horses.
