Resumo: The aim of this work was to perform the epidemiological characterization and spatial distribution of rabies in herbivores in the State of Pernambuco, Brazil, from 2004 to 2018. Were used the notification information recorded in the Continental Epidemiological Surveillance System-SIVCONT, Animal Health (DSA) of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA). The epidemiological study was conducted in order to analyze the evolution of the occurrence and spatial distribution of rabies in herbivores annually within the studied period, for this purpose an analysis of the temporal series was performed, verifying the existence of tendency, cyclicity and seasonality in the occurrence of rabies and analyzed the formation of clusters. In order to evaluate the efficiency parameters of the State Veterinary Service (SVS), the period studied was divided into three quinquennials: 2004-2008; 2009-2013 and 2014-2018 and analyzed by regional unit of the service. The occurrence of rabies in herbivores in the State of Pernambuco was characterized by the absence of cyclicity, seasonality and trend. The historical series was marked by a random factor. Five clusters were observed. The regional units with the highest number of notifications were Garanhuns, Sanharó, Recife, Sertânia and Palmares. It was observed an increase of the times of action and reaction among the studied quinquennia. Thus, the spatiotemporal characterization obtained in this study allows to subsidize the elaboration of a planning for the control of the rabies in herbivores, taking into account also the need to minimize oscillations in the execution of the actions of surveillance and adequacy of the cadastre and monitoring of shelters of hematophagous bats.
