Resumo: The teaching and learning processes have undergone significant changes, considering the technological advances incorporated by society in general in all social segments of life. This work, based on the assumptions of Distance Education (DE), focuses on the challenges and possibilities of implementing the Basic Distance Education modality in Youth and Adult Education (EJA). The study is based on the National Education Guidelines and Bases Law in force (Law nº 9.394 / 96) and Resolution CNE / CEB, nº 3 of June 15, 2010. The analyzes were made according to the theoretical and epistemological studies of Arroyo (2011), Belloni (2006), Freire (1996, 2000), Lévy (1999), Moran (2011) and Valente (2018), among others. The object of the research is the process of implementing EaD in EJA, which arose from situations experienced by EJA teachers in public and private teaching. The “Colégio Múltiplo”, in Timon-Maranhão, is the institutional space for research, whose general objective is to develop a pedagogical proposal for the qualification of EJA teachers in the use of the Moodle Platform and new technological resources, with a view to enabling the implementation of distance education in EJA. The specific objectives aim to: (a) identify the opinion of the teachers and students of the “Colégio Múltiplo” High School, on Distance Education, as a qualified education teaching; (b) identify advantages and / or disadvantages of the possible implementation of distance education in EJA; and (c) to elaborate a pedagogical proposal for the qualification of EJA teachers to work in EaD. The methodology is of a qualitative and quantitative nature and approach and of a descriptive nature. According to the opinion of teachers and students, the implementation of this teaching modality is possible and point out many advantages of teaching through the Moodle Platform, among them the possibility for students to be able to reconcile study and work.
