Resumo: The main objective of this research is to analyze the television journalism of TV Asa Branca and TV Jornal, in the city of Caruaru, Pernambuco, regarding the approach of themes related to Local Development. Specifically, it is intended to analyze the role of journalists working in these broadcasters in the definition of the guidelines and in the choices of the subjects that are broadcast on these local television channels, also trying to understand how the media contributes to bring to the audience subjects related to this type of development. We considered as vectors of this analysis the definitions of Franco (2000) and Jara (2001) for 1) e in Local forgetfulness; Tauk Santos and Callou (1995) in the approach between communication and development; And Wolf (1994), Berger and Luckmann (1995), Mayo (2004) and Vizeu (2005), in the understanding of the media - and especially television - in the social construction of reality. When we consider that the guidelines also depend on the knowledge that journalists have about certain subjects and their criticality motivates the need to make these contents public, we are based on the Theory of Newsmaking, anchored by Wolf (2001), Traquina (2004) and Pena (2006). To understand the place as a source of information, we refer to Peruzzo (2003, 2005), Camponez (2002), Bazi (2001) and Sousa (2006). The ABTV 1-issue television and Jornal Meio Dia TV were chosen for analysis in this research. We observed, in a sample of nine programs (five from Asa Branca TV), the occurrences of journalistic content (including VTs, notes, standups, links, etc.) dealing with issues related to Local Development , Through four capitals considered by Franco (2000) as propellants of this type of development: business capital, human capital, social capital and natural capital. The study showed that the two television programs devoted, in the period in question, an average of 50% of their time to topics related to Local Development, with the presentation of reports with various subjects such as community, health, education, rural and culture. The superficiality was present in several reports and the interviews with the journalists responsible for the programs give signs that the meanings attributed by them to Local Development are still precarious for an operation of these vehicles as an instrument of this type of development.
