Resumo: |
The municipality of Irauçuba, located in the state of Ceará, in the semi-arid region of the Brazilian Northeast, has been gaining prominence because it is in a marked state of desertification due to the scarcity of rainfall. In this context, the objective was to evaluate the advance of desertification in the region, based on climatic and biophysical data from the Climate Hazards Center InfraRed Precipitation with Station data (CHIRPS) product and the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) sensor, with the aid of the versatility of the Google Earth Engine (GEE) virtual processing, in a period from 2003 to 2020. Complementary data from automatic weather stations belonging to the National Agency for Water and Basic Sanitation (ANA) were used to measure the Rainfall Anomaly Index of the historical series, in addition to validating the CHIRPS product data on an annual scale via statistical indicators (Pearson Correlation Coefficient, Mean Error, BIAS Percentage and Root Mean Square Error). Subsequently, the CHIRPS data, the MODIS sensor products related to the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI, MOD13), surface temperature (MOD11) and evapotranspiration - PET (MOD16) and the MapBiomas data were manipulated in the digital platform GEE and in the QGIS software (version 3.18.3). Based on MapBiomas, an analysis of changes in land cover and use in the last 18 years for the Municipality was carried out. Finally, an analysis of the aridity index of the eighteen years was carried out. The results obtained showed the effectiveness of the methodology in measuring the environmental degradation that occurred during the research period, in which it was possible to observe the behavior of biophysical parameters in years considered extremely rainy (2009), normal (2011) and extremely dry (2012). The methodology used during the research proved to be a sustainable technology of low economic cost, effective and easily accessible, which made it possible to create a scientific contribution for future works in the region, in addition to adding knowledge for studies of environmental degradation. |
