Resumo: The aim of this study was to describe thepidemiology, clinicaland pathological findings due to outbrakes of poisoning cattle by Amorimia septentrionalis in Pernambuco and Paraíba and by Ricinus communis in Paraíba. To study theses cases technical sisits were made to various properties located in the Municipallies of Passira and Limoeiro, PE; and Salgado de São Félix and Itabaiana, PB. The cattle poisoned by A. septentrionalis were examined, euthanized and necropsied. In the cases of A. septentrionalis poisoning, the clinical signs showed were similar to other poisoning by plants containing MFA. In necropsy, pulmonary edema and globular heart were observed. In the microscopy, the lesions were associated to mononuclear intersticial inflamatory infiltrate and fibrotic multifocal areas. The animals poisoned by R. communis showed markedly thin, dehydrated, with brittle and rough hair, and perineal region and hind legs covered by brown-blackish coloured fetid feces. In these animals were verified ruminal acidosis (pH 5.0), and reaction to Methylene Blue, density and ruminal microflora motility reduced. The clincal pathology revealed normochromic normocytic anemia and a slight increase in the values of total plasma protein, leukocytosis with neutrophilia. The cattle poisoned by R. communis, that showed severe clinical signs of gastroenteritis were necropsied after diying naturally. The necropsy findings were haemopericardium, haemothorax, pulmonary edema, petechial hemorragies in the pericardium and endocardium and bruises in the papilary muscles. In the microscopy, the lesions were mainly multifocal coagulative necrosis in the miocardium with mononuclear inflamatory infiltrate and hemorragies in diffenrent degrees between cardiac muscular fibers.
