Resumo: |
The objective this study to evaluate the substitution of Tifton 85 hay (Cynodon spp) by spineless cactus (Nopalea cochenillifera) on intake, digestibility of nutrients and ingestive behavior of sheep without defined breed. We used 8 sheep rumen canulated were used, with average body weight of 58,44 + 13,5 kg. The treatments consisted in the replacement of hay by cactus at levels of 0; 33; 66 and 100%. Samples of food and leftovers were collected at the beginning of each trial period. The digestibility was estimated using indigestible acid detergent fiber as internal. The ingestive behavior via scan sampling. The replacement of hay by cactus influenced (P <0,05) intakes and digestibility of neutral detergent fiber and non-fiber carbohydrates. Rumination efficiency of neutral detergent fiber was not affected (P> 0,05) the substitution. The spineless cactus can be used in place of Tifton 85 hay. |
