Resumo: The study allows an evaluation of the dynamic structural changes of vegetation necessary for the implementation of forest management. This work consists of review of the literature and chapters two others aimed to identify and quantify the dynamics of natural regeneration of woody shrub species occurring in the understory of stands of the species Eucalyptus saligna and Pinus caribaea in Rebio of Saltinho, PE. Were considered in this study, measurements taken in 2007. For the understory of the stand of E. saligna and P. caribaea, regenerating species were measured from 10 permanent plots 1 x 50 m, and included individuals with a circumference of 30 cm base from the ground (CAB 0,30 m) ≤ 15 cm and height greater than one meter. The subjects were divided into three height classes. For each species were recorded phytosociological parameters, classified the type of dispersal and successional category. The dynamics parameters were calculated for the regenerant as a whole, and separately for each species. The index of Shannon (H ') and evenness (J') for Pielou. The total number of households in the surveys of 2007 and 2012 was 23 and 26 for the understory of population E. saligna, 33 and 30 to P. caribaea respectively. Melastomataceae presented richest in both stands and surveys. In the understory of E. saligna were identified 39 species in 2007 and 40 species in 2012, of which Erythroxylum mucronatum in both surveys had the highest number of individuals, relative density and value of importance (VI). In the understory of P. caribaea were identified 54 species in 2007 and 45 species in 2012, which in 2012 had Protium heptaphyllum greater number of individuals and VI. In all surveys the dispersal syndrome prevalent was the predominant sucessional category and Zoochory was secondary. As for diversity in the understory of E. saligna, Shanon index (H ') increased from 2,87 nats.ind-1 in 2007 to 3,01 nats.ind-1 in 2012, and evenness (J') increased from 0,78 to 0,81 over the same period. For the understory of P. caribaea H 'increased from 3,32 nats.ind-1 in 2007 to 3,07 nats.ind-1 in 2012, and J' from 0,85 to 0,62 in the same period, there was a decrease for both the diversity, and for the distribution. In the understory of E. saligna the regenerants were 62,25% and 37,75% survival mortality. In the understory of P. caribaea the survival of individuals, 2007 was 51,69% and mortality 48,31%. Regarding the number of individuals and basal area, the percentage gains were higher than losses. The results of ecological succession of regeneration of understory studied indicate that there is need for continuous monitoring of the species for defining the behavior of regenerants. For both sub-forests, the stands of Eucalyptus saligna and Pinus caribaea, are not preventing the emergence and establishment of species.
