This study analyzes the results of a pedagogic experiment on environmental education, carried out in 2002, in a school of the city of Carazinho/RS, involving, basically, hydric resources of the city. The perception of the little knowledge by the population in general and, in special, students on fountainheads and their conditions both of preservation and contamination was the initial cause of the project entitled Workshop Carazinho Water Divisor: a double commitment . With the aim of making public information related to water, the school sought for partnership in the community to do this workshop, from which resulted an important diagnosis on the situation of these resources and the definition, as well as the development of several actions aiming at minimize pollution problems and besides that, to develop ecologic consciousness among students and population of the city. Actions and propositions defined in the workshop were made public, especially through articles in the newspaper Diário da Manhã-Carazinho/RS. Due to this, the present study emphasizes its analysis on the news published in this newspaper within 2006 and 2010, aiming at verifying in which aspects the defined propositions in the workshop became effective and the results produced on the population s concepts on ecologic challenges of hydric mesh of the city of Carazinho/RS. Obtained data indicate some important conquests on the construction of an ecologic consciousness among students and population, the arising of greater vigilance actions on water and the implementation of actions by both public and private sectors which contribute for restoration of environmental conditions of the context
