This research, entitled The textual topic: a study in editorials, has its theme limited to the understanding of the topic in the construction of the argument and meaning of the text. The objective of this study is to understand the behavior of the topic discursive in the argumentative organization of the editorial genre text. The corpus of analysis is made up of three editorials taken from the newspapers Folha de S.Paulo and Zero Hour. The editorials are specifically from the second half of 2022, during the electoral period, that is, they are editorials whose main subject is the 2022 elections. To this end, Van Dijk (1980), Pontes (1985), Marcuschi (2008), who talk about the topic and comment. It also uses studies by Koch (2003, 2015), Marcuschi (2008, 2012) and Mussalim and Bentes (2017) to talk about text and textuality, according to the principles of Text Linguistics. The research, in terms of objectives, is descriptive and exploratory with a qualitative approach; Regarding procedures, it is bibliographic, documentary and analytical, as it will present editorial analyzes in which the construction of the meaning of the text will be observed based on the topic and the commentary text information organizers. The justification for the relevance of this study concerns the contribution to a better understanding of the topic and comment, in addition to showing that well-designed topics can help in textual organization. From the analysis of the editorials, it was evident that the meaning of the text is built from the architecture of different elements: characteristics of the textual genre, textuality factors, syntactic-semantic arrangements between topic and commentary, pragmatic factors, lexical selection and arguments of authority.
