Resumo: This dissertation is linked to the research line Fundamentals of Education of the Graduate Program in Education at UPF/RS and is entitled School, educational experience and childhood as growth in John Dewey. Its general objective is to explain the relationship between the concepts of growth, childhood, school and educational experience in Dewey, as a contribution to thinking about the human formation of children at school. The specific objectives are: to present constitutive aspects of the conception of modern childhood; characterize the relationship between school and education in Dewey and, finally, explain the relationship between experience, childhood and education as growth in Dewey. The research's guiding question is formulated as follows: What is the possible relationship to be established between the notions of school, educational experience and childhood in Dewey? This is a bibliographic-hermeneutic research, whose theoretical reference is the thought of Dewey, especially the works Democracy and Education and Experience and Education. The argumentative course developed throughout this dissertation allowed us to conclude that the notion of growth is an indispensable condition for understanding the relationship between school, educational experience and childhood in this author.
