Resumo: |
The objective was to evaluate in vivo the effects of platelet rich fibrin (PRF) in the consolidation of autogenous bone graft. The tested hypothesis was that PRF enhances the quality of bone formation between the graft and the host tissue. Ten rabbits were submitted to a surgical procedure to implant bilaterally bone grafts from calvaria in the mandible. PRF was placed in the interface in one side and the other side was left untreated (control). After 14 and 28 days the animals were euthanized and the tissues processed for histological evaluation (eosin and hematoxylin and toluidine blue). In both periods of evaluation, the use of PRF has improved the organization of the newly formed bone with higher concentration of blood vessels and desnsity of collagens fibrils where bone formation has not occurred. The hypothesis was accepted once the histology showed that PRF has improved the quality of bone formation after 14 and 28 days as compared to the control. The use of PFR between graft and host bone can be a promising method to improve graft consolidation |
