Resumo: The present research aimed to situate the current context of the higher education which, following the neoliberal orientations of regression of the public sphere and emphasis on the market regulation, has affected the formative processes, resulting on an unmeasured expansion, flexibility and reduction of the ethical-philosophical contents. This movement is identified on the quality decrease of the Social Work education and affects the consolidation of its professional project, the ethical-political project. Such project is entailed to the Marxist ethics and it is guided by values like liberty, democracy and human emancipation. This research discusses, based on the exposed social-historical conditions, the effectiveness of the project having in mind that it is required that the formative spaces guarantee a solid ethicalpolitical formation and overcome the knowledge transmission concerning the professional formation. The objectives of this research consist on: situate the scenario of the higher education; describe the constitution of the ethical-political project, bringing out the implications that the educational policy imposes to its consolidation; elucidate what the human emancipation means to the professional project; analyze the participation of formative processes in the education of the ethical subject, confronting it with the economicaleducational determinants imposed to the ethical formation. This research has an exploratory character and the methodological option was bibliographic research. The results of this research indicate that the expansion of education and the emptying of the formative contents represent a serious obstacle to the consolidation of the ethical-political project; human emancipation is a conception originated on Marx to which values of liberty and democracy are articulated and its conception does not find space in the bourgeois society because in it such values do not surpass the limits of formalism and individuality; the formation of the ethical subject requires the capacity to elaborate the past (Adorno) and the ethical subject of Gramsci and Lukács acts for the ideology, while real strength and ontological fact capable to alter the human life. The conclusion refers to the efforts, among others, to guarantee that universities fulfill their historical role and ethical finality to educate subjects as people able to think and critically reflect about their collective insertion on society
