Resumo: Communication in English between individuals of different nationalities and non-native speakers is part of our reality, whether in person or through the use of technology. The factors that drive communicative interactions are social, economic, academic, cultural, technological and others - through physical and digital means. English as a lingua franca (ILF) is a growing phenomenon, as linguistic variations arise influenced by the speakers' first language, their customs, social and cultural conditions. There is a global tendency to accept ELF, in fact, the BNCC (Brazil, 2018) highlights the need for teachers to take and teach these variations of the language. This all constitutes motivation for this study, considering that teaching ELF is not easy or simple, as it demands much more knowledge from the teacher and good materials to provide the necessary support. Thus, the general objective of this research was to critically analyze the LDLI Moderna Plus (Almeida, 2020), especially the genres and activities arising in units 1 to 6 of the material, in order to verify its contribution to the linguistic formation of young people , with a view to global citizenship. For this, the Moderna Plus, Teacher's Manual (ALMEIDA, 2020) and the student's book were analyzed, used in the state network of Rondônia between 2020 and 2023. This study, linked to the line of research Constitution and Interpretation of Text and Discourse , from the Postgraduate Program in Literature at the University of Passo Fundo, fits into the qualitative research paradigm, characterized as bibliographic and analytical, as its study focuses on LD. The results indicate that Moderna Plus has positive aspects to support the teaching of English, supporting the IL teacher, based on relevant and current themes and attractive activities. The book brings, in all analyzed units, oral and/or written genres, which favors contextualized learning, which can facilitate the use of IL in social practices. However, the book also has weaknesses, as it does not present the source of these genres, making it unclear whether they are authentic texts or not. Furthermore, when it comes to the lingua franca, Moderna Plus does not provide a significant variety of texts and/or countries, other than traditional ones, such as American and British English. Thus, the results reinforce the need for teachers to have good knowledge of the language they teach, in addition to theoretical knowledge on topics that facilitate the critical use of textbooks. We know that there is no perfect book. However, the trained/qualified teacher will be able to make good use of the book, making necessary additions with other materials, for example.
