Resumo: | This research was carried out with the Post-graduation Program in Education from Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia, UNESP - Presidente Prudente Campus, within the Reseach Line: Formative Processes, childhood and youth. The investigation was conducted in a public high school in the city of Presidente Prudente and was motived by reports from teachers, parents, principals and the media that pointed out adolescents do not like attending classes. The main aim of this research was to investigate the relationships between these students and their classrooms in order to verify if they really do not enjoy what they experience inside these areas. To answer this question, the theoretical reference was based on the Youth Sociology, in which the authors refer to the high school in its contemporary context. Considering it, adolescents are understood as diverse and active subjects, and youth is not seen as a troublesome stage of life, but as a social category which has its differences when compared to others.
