Resumo: |
Gingival recession is a highly prevalent problem, and may reach 100% of individuals over 50 years of age. The presence of the recession may lead to the emergence of other problems such as tooth sensitivity and esthetic complaint. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of connective tissue graft, aesthetics and patient comfort, when associated or not with the application of low intensity laser. To this end, we conducted a double-blind, randomized and controlled clinical trial. We selected 34 patients with 40 gingival recessions Miller class I and II. The groups were divided randomly into test group (tissue graft associated with the application of low intensity laser) and control group (tissue graft with placebo application of low intensity laser). We evaluated the rate of coverage, aesthetics and comfort of patients at 45 day, 2, 3 and 6 months after the procedure. At 6 months, the mean root coverage was 91.84% for the test group and 89.38% for the control group, with 65% of complete root coverage in the test group and 35% in the control group (p= 0.04). There was an increase in mean thickness of keratinized tissue (p= 0.019) after 6 months, but there wasn´t statistically significant difference between groups (p= 0.311). The dentine hypersensitivity decreases significantly after 6 months in both groups (p˂ 0.001). There was also improvement in aesthetics at the end of treatment in both groups, with statistically significant improvement in the test group (p˂ 0.001). Based on the results of this study it can be concluded that low intensity laser increased the percentage of complete root coverage and improves aesthetics after treatment |
