Resumo: Ants of Atta and Acromyrmex genus known as leaf - cutting ants keeps a symbiotic association with the fungu s which they feed. In agrosystem s with high density of nests these defoliators can cause economic damages by cutting plants and harming sprouting in different cultures. Studies of leaf cutting ants routine are extremely necessary for better understanding their foraging habits and also im portant for future control of these colonies. Therefore, the aim of this study was to obtain information about the individual and collective activities of leaf - cutting ants foraging during the search for substrate, approaching issues like workers path, ter ritory exploration and clever control of the colonies. Tests were taken in laboratory using colonies of the leaf - cutting ant Atta sexdens rubropilosa Forel, 1908 kept in an artificial device for a year, these were loose in a glass box containing substrate in a first situa tion to assess the trajectory search and transport of the substrate and later in the same area but clean, housekeeping was always performed with acetone, to assess the exploration time between the first and remaining repetitions in the same colony, also held the test field with artificial baits highly attractive, in a delimited area, where the colony originated from the laboratory to for aging for 24 hours. The data were obtained in that search for the substrate path is greater than the trans portation to the colony, the first exploration requires more time than the others performed in the same area and the baits found after exploration of Scout, is related to the distance that these are the trails and holes
