The Brazilian Navy is commonly referred to as a male space. Therefore, the aim of this research was investigate the inclusion of women in this military institution since 1980s in accordance to law number 6.807 (7th July 1980). To achieve this purpose, political and institutional factors that contributed to the female admission were analyzed. In addition, institutional feedback was described as an important aspect due to still existing restrictions. This study used written documents, oral testimonies and others sources to explore the complex implementation process of the law 6.807 and their progress in 21th century. The concept of representation was applied to construe the Brazilian Navy standpoint about the inclusion of women and their consequences. Lastly, this project approached the military institution as a legitimate object of study. Despite the Brazilian Navy was the first among others military organizations to admit women, there are still some obstacles to overcome, especially in the Naval Academy. |
