Resumo: This experiment aimed to compare growth performance and survival of four Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) strains from CESP, Pernambuco, Santa Catarina and Thailandese in sex reversal phase. Thirty fry were stocked in 4.5L aquaria (6.66 fry/L) in a recirculation system with controlled temperature. The experimental design was completely at random with four treatment (strains) and seven replicates. Total length, weight gain, specific growth rate, survival rate and sexual reversion efficiency were submitted to ANOVA and means compared trough Tukey test and sex reversion by qui-square. The results (Table 1) has shown that Pernambuco strain presented smaller final total length and did not differ from Santa Catarina strain. Pernambuco strain presented also worse values of weight gain. Better specifc growth rate were presented by Thailand and Pernambuco strains. The survival rate was better in Thailandese (88.1%) and Santa Catarina (92.86%) strains than CESP (63,33%) and Pernambuco (39,05%). Sex reversal analises demonstrated high efficiency rate to Santa Catarina and Pernambuco strains. This study revealed that CESP and Pernambuco strains presented lower survival rate and similar growth when compared with Thailand and Santa Catarina ones, which demonstrate that the latter ones are better for culture during the sex reversal phase
