The education process of the librarian becomes indispensable in units and systems of information the moment that the education factor for the institutions that endeavor for the quality in the products and services offered to their users. In this setting, the university libraries have sought to improve the service to the academic community since they have a fundamental importance in the support of teaching, research and extension. In light of this, the study presents the reality of the university libraries within the library network of Universidade Estadual Paulista (UNESP) which is maintained by the São Paulo State government being one the three public universities together with the Universidade de São Paulo (USP) and the Universidade de Campinas (UNICAMP). There is one peculiarity that distinguishes it from the others: it is the only university present in practically throughout the whole state of São Paulo and for this reason needs an educational policy in institutionalized service that takes such characteristics into consideration. This study is part f the “Treatment policy of the information documentary in UNESP´s library network” project coordinated by Dr. Mariângela Spotti Lopes Fujita. The goal is to develop a proposal of Continuing Education for librarians cataloguers starting from the reality of its own library and has specific goals to conduct a theoretical and methodological study on professional service education in the context of the treatment of documentary contents in university libraries in the information science perspective; to raise together with the directors of these libraries the conditions of planning and developing proposals of Continuing Education; to know the reality and the needs related to the education in librarian cataloguers service from the libraries of the UNESP network...
