Resumo: Allelopathy is usually defined as any process involving the production of secondary metabolites by plants and/or microorganisms that influence the development of biological systems. There is a great variety of compounds with this type of activity, being their production altered by environmental factors. In this study aimed to evaluate the phytotoxic effect of aqueous extracts of leaves of Byrsonima intermedia, Gochnatia polymorpha, Luehea candicans, Miconia chamissois and Qualea cordata, collected in different seasons (dry and rainy seasons), on germination and early growth of a monocot, Zea mays L. (corn), and a eudicot, Cucumis sativus L. (cucumber). Thus, we carried out germination and early growth experiments with extracts of five species of Cerrado, being evaluated the germination percentage, the germination speed and the synchronism of the target seeds and the primary root length, shoot and the number of secondary roots of target seedlings. In general, both the germination and the early growth were altered by analyzed extracts. This was observed for both maize and cucumber. In addition, the seasonality influenced in the phytotoxic activity of extracts, however the effects varied with the species studied. According to the results, it is concluded that the leaf aqueous extracts of species studied are phytotoxic and that the seasonality influences in their phytotoxicity
