The literature reports that workers exposed to noise and organophosphate insecticides may show changes in the central auditory pathways and hence the central auditory processing. Thus, it becomes important to conduct studies in this population in order to assess their auditory skills with behavioral and electrophysiological procedures. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to analyze, in a comparative form, central auditory processing of men with and without occupational exposure to noise and organophosphate, using behavioral and electrophysiological tests. The basis of the study design was analytical / comparative, prospective and cross-sectional. This study was developed in a clinical school in a public university. The sample was composed of workers exposed to noise and organophosphate with pure tone audiometry within the normal range (lower or equal to 25 dB HL thresholds on frequencies of 250 to 8000 Hz bilaterally). As exclusion criteria was established: alcoholism, stress, diabetes insulo-dependent, hypertension, meningitis, syphilis and toxoplasmosis. In this study took part 29 men aged between 32 and 50 years, divided into two groups: study group (SG) consisted of 14 insecticide appliers , exposed to noise and organophosphate (average time in function of 17 years) and control group (CG) composed of 15 volunteers unexposed and no hearing complaints. In this research was applied: Frequency Patterns Test (FPT) and Duration Patterns Test (DPT) (Auditec®, adult version) and P300. The P300 stimuli were presented in two different ways, one by varying the frequency of the stimulus (P300f) and the other the duration (P300d). The Mann- Whitney test compared the results of behavioral and electrophysiological tests between groups and Spearman Correlation the correlation of the results of behavioral and electrophysiological tests. The analysis of variability of the FPT and DPT between the groups revealed that the number of correct answers... |
