Resumo: | This research has as object of study the National Forum in Defense of Public School (NFDPS), their participation in the National Constituent Assembly (NCA) and the proposition of the Democratic Management (DM) at school. The origin of Democratic Management in Constituent was in process of participation from Forum of Constituents linked to popular front parties that took the proposal in discussions at Federal Constitution of 1988. The NFDPS, created in 1987, was composed of several representative entities of the segments from academic community and workers in general, with the goal to argue with NCA a proposal for the chapter about education. The Forum emerged like deployment of these movements, articulating as important political force during the process of drafting of the chapter about education in the Federal Constitution of 1988 (FC/88). Several states and municipalities have had experiences of popular participation and collegiate administration. During the process that preceded the Constituent Assembly, these initiatives and theoretical discussions formulated a proposal for democratization of teaching, which had as principle the implementation of participation mechanisms like election of directors and school boards. Among the main proposals of the Forum was the DM in education, which was presented as one of the principles in Federal Constitution of 1988 (CF/88). There is little research whose theme is the performance and organization of the Forum in the 1980s, likewise the origin of the DM in the Forum proposal. This way, our general goal was to verify the origin of the proposal of Democratic Management in teaching and in movement in defense of the public school. The role that the NFDPS had for the incorporation of DM in legislation and in schools was also observed.
