Resumo: The bra is a piece of intimate clothing made up of different configuration elements that are in contact with the body and can influence the performance of use during the actions of dressing, adjusting to the body and undressing. Because of this, when developing a product, thoracic anatomy, breast volumes, biomechanics and the context of use must be taken into account to be combined with the configurative elements and, thus, guarantee well-being and safety at the moment of use, for an inadequate bra can cause harm to your health. When this product is inserted in a context of use by women who are undergoing radiotherapy for breast cancer, the design requirements are intensified as this intervention results in skin side effects and, as a result, the use of the bra may interfere with the quality of life in this group. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the perception of the use of bras by women with breast cancer undergoing radiotherapy, aiming to understand the main aspects of this relationship to serve as parameters for defining product guidelines that can contribute for designing new bras. The methodological procedures were based on inductive reasoning, a qualitative approach and characterized by an experimental and descriptive study. To identify perceptions, two data collections were carried out: (i) the perception of nurses working in radiotherapy sectors based on reports on complaints from patients already treated and, (ii) women undergoing radiotherapy treatment based on the models of bras worn by them during the beginning, middle, end and up to 90 days after treatment. The results demonstrated that the characteristics of the surgical approach along with the location of the scar, limitation of arm movement and the tasks of putting on/adjusting/taking off the bra, influence the perception of use of the artifact through the configurative elements of the piece such as; cup, strap, strap length adjuster, armhole, clasp and cup holder. From this, guidelines were developed that can guide the Fashion Designer to develop bra designs that provide independence, safety and comfort to users.
