Resumo: | Global infection with the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) persists, affecting countless people. Antiretroviral therapy (ART) has improved life expectancy, but people living with HIV face increased risks of comorbidities, including erectile dysfunction (ED). This study investigated the frequency of positive screening for ED and symptoms associated with depression, anxiety and stress in men with HIV (HCHIV). We carried out a cross-sectional study in a Specialized Care Service (SAE) that covered 120 men, HIV-positive patients, all aged 18 or over. Data collection took place between March 2021 and December 2023. ED was assessed using the International Index of Erectile Function questionnaire. Psychological factors were measured using the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21). The prevalence of ED was 37.5% (95%CI: 28.8- 46.2%). We observed that men over the age of 50 have a higher percentage of ED. Furthermore, symptoms of depression, stress and anxiety were analyzed, with anxiety demonstrating a significant association with ED. These findings highlight the importance of considering mental health conditions in the context of erectile dysfunction in patients with HIV. |
