Resumo: This research aimed to analyze, in an interdisciplinary manner, the public policies implemented in the municipal education system in Foz do Iguaçu – PR, concerning the Specialized Educational Assistance for students with disabilities, global developmental disorders, specific functional disorders, or giftedness/talents. The inclusive educational service for people with disabilities breaks with the idea of integration and, above all, segregation, going beyond these concepts that have long prevailed in the educational field. It aims to ensure that students fully develop all their potential through individualized and specialized work. To address the research problem, important legal milestones regarding the rights of people with disabilities were identified, especially in the educational field, given the fundamental nature of the social right to education. The contributions of key names in pedagogy were also considered in order to understand the progress made in terms of educational service for people with disabilities or learning-related disorders, highlighting the challenging journey of overcoming the exclusion of this group from common learning environments. The concept of special education from the perspective of inclusive education and the public policies aimed at its implementation were analyzed. The methodology adopted was a qualitative and quantitative analysis of documents and data presented by the Municipality of Foz do Iguaçu, in addition to bibliographic research. At the end of the research, it was possible to outline an overview of the educational services offered to Special Education students in the city in question, identifying that there are indeed inclusive educational policies, but there is still much to be done to ensure full and effective educational inclusion, as the collected data indicate gaps in the provision of services.
