The relationship between Social Service and violence against women began in the late 1970s and developed together with the claims and struggles of the feminist movement. From this perspective, the present research brings as central theme the Social Service and the production of knowledge in the area about violence against women. As specific objectives: discuss theoretically the phenomenon of violence against women; identify the historical, legal and normative framework of combating violence against women in Brazil and map the scientific articles published in the main journals of the Social Service area - period from 2010 to 2020 - which refers to violence against women and its confrontation. Finally, we present an overview of the main concerns and debates about public policies for women, the social (un)protection system, and the violation of women's rights, which were launched to the field of Social Service in the last decade of the 21st century. In conclusion, we point out that the publications on our research theme from 2010 to 2020 were systematic and continuous. In this sense, it is correct to state that there is a lively and pulsating movement of research and debates that point to the debate on the various forms of violence against women in Social Work. That the commitment of the social worker researchers with the exercise of critical reflection on violence against women. The researches exposed in the articles studied denounced the authoritarianism of the State when it comes to impunity when it comes to guaranteeing women's rights. On the other hand, the uncompromising defense of the Maria da Penha Law was also present among the research findings. However, such defense did not eliminate the critical considerations to the referred legislation. And, regarding the violation of women's rights, we noticed that men are the main aggressors of women, and the study on the practices of violence in the private sphere, that is, in intrafamily or affective conjugal relationships are the most expressive. Another element present in the analyzed material is the understanding of violence as a public problem and the criticism to the bourgeois nucleus family model.
