Resumo: Suicide and suicide among teenagers constitute an important social phenomenon whose approach requires transversality. As a recurring theme in literature in the most diverse times, in the novel The Virgin Suicides(1993) by Jeffrey Eugenides, an important account of the suicide of five teenage sisters in the mid-twentieth century is found, very representative of a reality and which was served as a source. In the humanities, sociology has made an important contribution to the analysis of suicide as a social phenomenon since the 19th century. However, it is with Karl Marx and his work On Suicide(1846) that we findthe theme systematized for the first time withenough elements to problematize teenager suicide as a social phenomenon and its causes, which is our objective.
