Resumo: The direction of an organization depends, in part, on the characteristics and cognitive basis of the management team. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between managers' personal characteristics and values with their level of leadership. From a quantitative research, a set of hypotheses was tested with a sample composed of 193 managers of large corporations linked to agribusiness in the western region of Paraná. As a method, the Model Analysis of Structural Equations (MEE) was used, using the Partial Least Squares (PLS) method. The results demonstrate that personal values, measured by the dimensions: openness to change; self-promotion; conservation and self-transcendence, are strong predictors of the level of transformational leadership. It was also observed that older leaders have a higher level of transformational leadership than younger managers. The main contribution of this study lies in the evidences of the relations between personal values and the level of transformational leadership, associations that still lack empirical investigations.
