Resumo: The aim of this paper is to analyse the importance of the cultural experience in tourism, according to the tourists who visit Salvador. The theoretic referential has the purpose of analysing the search of the new tourists, focusing in researches about the behavior of the consumer, marketing of experience and cultural tourism. To achieve a confrontation between practice and theory, this study tried to analyse up to what extent the tendencies of consumption in tourism were observed in the opinion of the tourists who visited Salvador. To reach a conclusion 15 qualitative interviews and 400 quantitative questionnaires were apllied. The results of this study show what are the factors that mostly motivate tourist when they decide to travelç the perception about the relation among culture, “sun and beaches”, resorts and different experiences of traveling and trace a psycho-demographic profile of those who were interviewed. Due to the changes observed in the behavior of the present tourist, there is a necessity to change the strategies that have been used in tourism.
