This research has focused on the study and analyze of the main geographical indications in Brazil, and yours possible contributions to local development. The general objective is investigate and analyze the principal intangible assets that exist in the Brazilian geographical indications, through the application of questionnaires and interviews, applied in the Regulatory Council of geographical indications researched. It has been assumed that the use and management of intangible assets by producers, in a cooperative way, can provide competitive advantage in this information economy. The main motivation for this research has focused on the absence of significant studies about intangible assets in complex organizations, especially in producer association with geographical indications label, because these organizations have had a significant mean in value creation and local development. The main topics of this research involve questions of new organizational paradigms, complex organizations, intellectual property, intangible assets, geographical indications and their positioning strategies, and a discussion of local development. Therefore, it was used as the main theoretical approach, the managing resource-based (MBR) evidenced by Penrose (1959) and Barney (1991) and, the collective efficiency based in the Hubert Schmitz’s (1997) studies. For the empirical research it was analyzed fourteen geographical indications that exist in Brazil registered in the INPI until 2011, focusing the Project in 04 of these, as a research sample. Methodologically it is an inductive study, configured as qualitative and quantitative, and analytical descriptive, realized by the using of the multiple case study. The results have showed that the use of intangible assets by the geographical indications have promoted the solution of some troubles experienced by producers, providing better market conditions and also contributed to local development. In this sense, despite the classification of intangible assets was proposed another classification, adding the existing geographic assets. It was observed an increase in the creation of new geographical indications in Brazil in 2012, indicating your importance in the context, a fact that underscores the needing for public policies to stimulate the creation of new geographical indications in Brazil, situation that provides the local development. |
